Universal Studios Singapore is the theme park inside Resorts World Sentosa, on the island of Sentosa just off the southern coast of the city. It packs a lot of rides and shows into a fairly compact site, grouped into themed zones based on films and TV, and it makes a full, tiring and very fun day out for families and ride fans. Getting there is easy on public transport, with one change from the MRT onto the Sentosa Express monorail.

Why visit Universal Studios Singapore

The park is laid out as a loop of zones around a central lagoon, so you can walk the whole circuit without backtracking much. Zones are built around film worlds such as Hollywood, New York, Sci-Fi City, Ancient Egypt, The Lost World, Far Far Away and Madagascar. Each mixes bigger thrill rides with gentler attractions and live shows, which is why it works for groups with mixed ages.

The famous globe at the entrance sits outside the ticket gates, so even if you are not going in, it is a popular photo stop on a walk around Resorts World.

How to get to Universal Studios Singapore by MRT

The nearest MRT station is HarbourFront, served by the North East Line and the Circle Line. From there you have a few options for the final stretch onto Sentosa:

Sentosa can charge a small island admission fee depending on how you arrive, and the rules on this have changed over the years, so check the Sentosa website for the current arrangement.

Universal Studios Singapore tickets

You need a dated ticket to enter the park. Prices vary by day, with weekends, school holidays and public holidays usually costing more. Buy from the official Resorts World Sentosa website, rwsentosa.com, or the official app, and be careful with heavily discounted resellers. An Express pass, sold separately, lets you skip the regular queue on many rides once each, and it can be worth it on busy days.

Opening hours change with the season and special events, so look up the official calendar for your date before you go rather than assuming the park opens at the same time every day.

Best time to visit

Weekdays outside school holidays are the quietest. Arrive before opening so you are at the gates when they open, and head straight for the most popular rides first while queues are short. Singapore is hot and humid all year and afternoon thunderstorms are common, so plan indoor attractions and shows for the middle of the day. Some outdoor rides pause when lightning is detected nearby, then reopen once the storm passes.

Most people spend the whole day here. With an early start and an Express pass you can cover the main rides in about six hours, but a relaxed pace with shows and meals easily fills opening to close.

Highlights

The big rides

The duelling roller coasters in Sci-Fi City are the headline thrill rides, and the indoor Transformers dark ride is often the longest queue in the park. Revenge of the Mummy in Ancient Egypt is a fast indoor coaster in near darkness.

For younger children

Far Far Away, the Shrek-themed zone, and Madagascar have gentler rides and characters to meet. Height limits apply to many attractions, so check them on the park map before queuing.

Shows and parades

Live shows and character appearances run on a daily schedule shown in the app and on screens around the park. Water-based rides in The Lost World will soak you, so carry a light change of clothes or a poncho.
