Aquaria KLCC is a large indoor aquarium in the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, a short walk across KLCC Park from the Petronas Twin Towers. Its best known feature is a long underwater tunnel with a moving walkway, where sharks, rays and big fish swim around and above you. With its central location and air-conditioned galleries, Aquaria KLCC is one of the easiest family outings in the city and pairs naturally with a visit to the towers.
Why visit Aquaria KLCC
The aquarium follows the journey of water from the highlands of Malaysia down through rivers and mangroves to the open ocean, so you start with freshwater species and finish with coral reefs and sharks. Along the way there are displays of river fish, reptiles and amphibians, jellyfish, seahorses and colourful reef species, plus touch pools for children.
The tunnel is the highlight. Sharks, large rays, turtles and schools of fish pass overhead, and the walkway lets you move slowly or stop to watch. Feeding sessions and talks through the day add to the experience.
How to get to Aquaria KLCC
The most convenient station is KLCC on the LRT Kelana Jaya Line. From the station, walk through Suria KLCC mall and out into KLCC Park, then cross the park toward the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. Aquaria is on the concourse level of the convention centre, and the walk takes around 10 to 15 minutes. In wet weather, ask at the mall for the covered route.
If you are coming from Bukit Bintang, the covered pedestrian walkway from the Pavilion area ends near the convention centre, which makes walking an easy option. Raja Chulan on the KL Monorail is also within walking distance, though the route along the roads is less pleasant than the park.
Aquaria KLCC tickets and opening hours
Tickets can be bought at the entrance or online in advance on the official website, aquariaklcc.com. Prices differ for Malaysians and foreign visitors, and there are rates for children and seniors. Extra experiences such as diving or snorkelling with sharks may be offered for an additional fee and usually need advance booking and conditions to be met.
Aquaria is open daily, but hours can change on public holidays. Check the official site for current prices, feeding times and any special offers.
Best time to visit and how long to allow
Weekday mornings are the best time to visit Aquaria KLCC, with fewer school groups and families than weekends and Malaysian school holidays. Rainy afternoons also bring a rush. Most people spend around two hours inside. Check the feeding schedule at the entrance and plan your route so you are in the tunnel or at the shark tank at the right time.
Highlights inside
- The underwater tunnel: the long walk-through tunnel is the main reason most people come.
- Feeding sessions: watch divers feed the sharks and rays at set times.
- The flooded forest and river zones: large freshwater fish and reptiles from Malaysian rivers.
- Jellyfish and seahorse displays: smaller tanks with striking lighting.
- Touch pools: a hands-on stop for children, with staff on hand to explain.
Tips for families
Pushchairs are generally fine inside, though the tunnel walkway can be busy at peak times. The aquarium is cool, so a light layer helps on a long visit. There is a café and a gift shop near the exit, and the KLCC Park playground and wading pool are a short walk away, a good way to let children burn off energy afterwards. Combine the aquarium with the park in the late afternoon, then stay on for the fountain show by the towers in the evening. If you are visiting on a tight schedule, the aquarium and the towers together fill a comfortable half day, with lunch in Suria KLCC in between, and there is no need to go back outside between them except to cross the park.
